Editorial Reviews About the Editor This masterpiece of European modernism was first published in 1937, and so come into the literary scene at an inopportune time dk publishing torrent. First World War and Russian domination of Poland, Gombrowicz and the author's decades in exile in Argentina, but remove all the public awareness of a novel that remains a singularly strange exploration of identity, cultural and political mores and Eros dk publishing torrent. Joey Kowalski tells the story of his transformation from a 30-year-old man in a teenager. Joey wakes up one morning, looks in the grip of fear when he was a ghost of himself standing in the corner of his room. He orders the ghost whose face "was just someone else'sAand but it was me," to leave. When the mind is gone, Kowalski is driven to write, to create his own "work" are "free to present to [his] own opinion." A visitor comes, doctor of philosophy with the name Pimko. When talking with him Pimko to shrink Kowalski in order to begin "a little character," his work is a "work soon." Pimko is again larger and larger. It takes Kowalski in a school in the old polish and the adventures of the man-boy adventure continues in a household of the middle class and the country seat of the aristocratic landed property. Kowalski works are funny and sexy (this is a modern closer to Dada and the Marx Brothers high notes of TS Eliot and Ezra Pound), but also a subtle wave of gravity philosophical insight. Gombrowicz is interested in identity and how to impose the time and circumstances, history and place shape people's lives. Without sentimentality, ridicule, and sometimes brutal, Kowalski is Callow youth and immature, but it is also free to indulge in lust. Susan Sontag directs this new translation with a foreword me feel strong and useful by Gombrowicz's tale "extravagant, brilliant, disturbing, brave, funny, wonderful ... .." And it's (Oct.)
